What a beautiful day we had celebrating the winter solstice. Hot chocolates drunk, marshmallows toasted, soup in our bellies, and the promise of spring π±
Join us in the garden next Sunday 22 June to celebrate the winter solstice!
The weather might be cold but we'll be warm with hot drinks, hearty soup, and good company around the fire.
Plus, in preparation for spring planting, we'll be tarping over the eastern rows.
Free event. Bring the whole family!
Sunshine, stories, and shared meals! Our community garden came alive this weekend with the launch of our cookbook, a delicious potluck lunch, plant sales, and magical garden potions made by the kids. Thank you to everyone who made it such a joyful and memorable day!
Big shout out to cook book illustrator @angharad.nw, our treasurer @rhydiancowley, and all our recipe writers for making the cook book happen! If you'd like to purchase a copy of our cook book, please head to our website to see how.

Who else can't wait to try Rhydian's lemon curd recipe with their own local lemons? ππ

Do you have your own favourite recipes? Maybe some that remind you of your childhood, that you make from ingredients grown in your backyard, or make you feel strongly connected to your cultural traditions or childhood? Perhaps a friend or family member makes a special dish you think needs to be shared.
If so, we'd love to hear from you! After all, what is growing food without turning it into something delicious!
The Fawkner Food Bowls is being supported by a Merri-bek City Council grant to create a community cookbook (expected to be published Autumn 2025) - bringing all of us in Fakwner and Merri-bek together through the story and shared love of food.
You can submit your recipes (as many as you like), and the stories behind them by email to fawknerfoodbowls@gmail.com, drop them off to the following locations: Any Merri-bek library, Merri Food Hub, or Fawkner Food Bowls on our sunday gardening days, or online through the link below:

Images 1-3: Some beautiful autumn winter crops coming along very nicely, and some amazing volunteers who managed to clear, reset and plant out three rows on Sunday!
Images 4-6: bunches of rocket, mizuna, and mibuna. Harvested for @merrifoodhub so get along to their markets - Wednesdays in Glenroy, Fridays in Fawkner.
Come along every Sunday 10am-1pm to help us grow food for our community!

What a day! Thanks to everyone who came along to our biannual Garden Festival. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the garden on Sunday. Our hearts are so full!
